Their respective futures imo will consist of Grand Duke Henri's abdication in late 2025 and his eldest son Guillaume taking over as Grand Duke by November next year. This Regent representative role is the precursor to that and was exactly what happened when Henri took over from HIS father nearly 25 years ago. I imagine that Henri will always be available to help out if needs be but that he and his wife (who rarely visits the Grand Duchy in recent years because of certain past events we all know about) will be spending much of their time near Biarritz and elsewhere in France.

 I would imagine this will be an adventure for Guillaume and Stephanie at first.The only difference in their future roles in comparison to his parents is that this couple (due to circumstances beyond their control) still have a very young family. However, life for Luxembourg royals is hardly arduous, so I think they will manage!

This Sunday, October 13, was the National Day of Commemoration during which Luxembourg pays tribute to the People for their resistance, their solidarity and their fight against the Nazi occupier between 1940 and 1945. The day has been commemorated every year since 1946.

HRH the Grand Duke began the morning with the religious service held for the occasion at the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg before heading to the National Monument of Luxembourg Solidarity at the "Kanounenhiwwel". His Royal Highness laid a wreath there and then rekindled the flame of remembrance.

A not unexpected event. Nevertheless it will mean a somewhat busier schedule after October for Guillaume and Stephanie, who have a very young family. I expect Gr Duc Henri to keep popping back regularly for the next few years however, just to offer some support for a while. Not so sure about Teresa coming often for official events, though. She and the Court admin still have strains I believe.
