King of Bhutan marries Jetsun Pema

His Majesty The King of Bhutan has married Jetsun Pema in a lavish ceremony, with a coronation ceremony subsequently taking place to Crown Jetsun Pema Queen of Bhutan.

Upon her crowing, Monks chanted to celebrate the union as the King returned to his throne with his new Queen.

The Royal Wedding took months to plan – and has been highly anticipated in the Kingdom of Bhutan, with most in the country decorating their houses and local neighbourhoods with posters of the royal couple.

The Monarchy in Bhutan is highly revered and works within the framework of a Constitutional Monarchy with an elected parliament – however the King still holds many reserved powers and influence within the government of Bhutan.
