No....the taxpayers do not pay for the honeymoon, not since the Royal Yacht Britannia was decommissioned, and that used to come out of the Defence budget. That was one Royal luxury which I felt was right to be done away with. The reason it came out of the defence budget was that in the event of any war then the Britannia could be requisitioned and turned into a hospital ship, but the Falklands came and went and the Britannia was left as it was.
I was under the impression that when royals went abroad they had to seek permission to do so from the Foreign Office and that they then liaise with the Embassy or Consulate in the country they are planning to visit.
