Prince Harry has qualified as an Apache attack helicopter pilot, graduating as the best co-pilot gunner in his class after 18 months of training, Britain's defense ministry said Thursday.

The ministry said the prize recognizes the student whose performance is the best among their peer group.

Telegraph Prince Harry in Afghanistan: MOD release footage of Harry in Apache training

The Ministry of Defence have released footage of Prince Harry training at the US "Top Gun" centre based near the Mexican border in Arizona, where only "the best of the best" become Apache pilots.

A very warm hug congratulations to Prince Harry.  :shake: :bday: :RAFWilliam:

This opens a window of  hope to all those high school graduates with an A in Arts and a D in geography to try out in Sandhurst Military Academy and/or the Army/AirCorps, an option to have a meaning in life.

^^ Hence thanks to Prince Harry, he has opened a window opportunity to those who aren't University material per se.  There are written rules in the 3 military schools he went to, now people can certainly bend some of those rules using the Prince Harry case.    Edit to add: With this, I'm not saying its bad, on the contrary, I deeply feel its good, he is a case study that some of the military entry rules and examinations should/have to be revised, because He clearly has demonstrated that despite not having the necessary grades to enter Sandhurst MA, AirCorps -- he was accepted.

Please be careful when posting that you do not make statements that are potentially defamatory.  Stating that Apache pilots are trained to kill is OK.  Especially as this is stated directly in the media links.  Stating that an individual, including RF members, IS a killer or HAS killed is not acceptable.  If there are any posts that break Rule #2 they will be removed and warnings will be issued.

The press really needs to take a step back and stop reporting about Harry's military activities.Clarence house needs to work harder and stop using his accomplishments as some sort of PR  or have it used as a pagefiller. :ugh:

^ I think his choice of career, the Apache Helicopter, which doesn't have any other function but for war within the Military won't help the media to take a back seat.  Also I don't think fault should be placed entirely on SJP or CH, but the MOD for allowing the media to follow his footsteps in the war zone -- make a documentary out of it.

Articles from yesterday, after the press embargo of Prince Harry's graduation was released

Prince Harry in Afghanistan: use Royal role to help people not kill say Taliban
Prince Harry should be using his royal position to help people rather than kill them the Taliban have said as they condemned his return to the Afghan frontline.

"A prince should use his position to help people, not to come and kill people around the world,” said Zabiullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the militants.

Prince Harry in Afghanistan: I watched Harry's first 'kill'
John Bingham was the only print journalist to cover Prince Harry's first tour of Afghanistan on the ground, seeing the Royal at ease with his work, the camaraderie with his colleagues and witnessing his first 'kill'.

The black and white footage was grainy but unforgettable: the silhouette of a man running for cover as a fighter jet swooped down ready to strike.
Moments later the outlines of fields and mud-walled compounds vanished into a cloud of dust.
It is probably not a term he would use to describe it, but this was Prince Harry’s first “kill”.

Prince Harry should be allowed to have a career of his choosing, but I do wish he would stop falling out of bars drunk all the time. He should be a role model and show young people how to strive for a higher goal.  Congrats Prince Henry Wales.

He has been allowed to date to have the career of his choosing.  He will go to a war zone as well, if not there will be a major media meltdown/scandal with headlines of multimillion pounds tax payer expense.

^ They should just sent him there so the Talibans can capture him? Can you imagine what would happen if that happens? If they don't kill him they would use him to get things why would anyone want any of the above?  :eyes: I don't care how much his training costs if he is captured it would cost British people more than his training just saying...

I think we've seen a massive decline over Harry falling out of bars in the last couple of years.  Yes, we all saw him going out in California, but it used to be we got pics on a weekly  basis.  Now it's almost on a monthly basis.

If he does go to a warzone it's not going to be announced. And hopefully the press will refrain from publishing it if they find out he's there.

He will be in the back seat for now, higher percentage of survival rather than the front seat, and taking into consideration that all pilots (and co-pilots) have one of the 5 most riskiest jobs.

He'll be fine, out of all the possible range of sorties, it always comes with a 1 to 5 risk factor (enemy, trench, equipments), his Commander in Chief will probably send him to the lower risk ones as a rookie, whilst the more experimented will take the higher risk.
