I applaud anyone that attempts to climb the dangerous peak that is Everest. Good luck to him.

Harry won't do any climbing, he will just be in the area.

@ @HWalesWatch you're welcome! The way I see it - he will support & champion the team he just won't do the actual climb. #PrinceHarry

@ @HWalesWatch just heard from CH that Harry plans to support Walking With the Wounded as much as he can but he won't be climbing M.Everest.

^Thank you, Wilkat, for the clarification. This makes much more sense. When a similar article appeared a few weeks ago I seriously doubted he would actually climb or attempt the climb. Being in the area or near there to show support is a very good thing since this is a very dangerous endeavor.

Bensgal, you're welcome. You have to wonder where the newspapers get these ridiculous ideas. This one made Harry seem suicidal.  :windsor:

^ Maybe, Wilkat, but I bet he would if he could!  He's quite a brave lad!

Brave, he may be, but it takes much more than bravery to summit Everest. Some of the people who have died climbing Everest had summitted the other six of the seven major summits in the world.

He would need a minimum of 12 months of cardiovascular training to enable more oxygen in the body, running 7-8 miles on a daily basis (those whom made it had running in their training program with a rucksack in their back), weight lifting-upper body in order to carry the 15 Kgs rucksack, gain weight, stop smoking/drinking...just the basics.

You're welcome.  My country has a team that made it to the north side at 7750 meters, government sponsored - Proyecto Cumbre.

Wow!  Goes to show the very hard work that has to be put in before doing something like this.

My cousin's two grandsons climbed Mt.Everest back in Sept. Ages 17 & 19. Promoted by a Young's people group from Scotland which I think is a national group. The oldest did make it to the summit while the other got to the last camp site, from the top, where he stayed overnite at 3100 metres. The altitude was too much for him it seems. They had a fantastic experience, even the flight into Nairobi was special!
I would think that with the fitness that Prince Harry has to be for his job alone, would enable him to do the mountain...Perhaps he'll be dropped at half way and finish the upward climb to the summit! :)
