The Cost of Having a Monarch
« on: May 25, 2011, 09:00:55 PM »
I am an elderly lady and am perturbed by the constant criticism reference the ' cost to taxpayers ' of retaining the Monarch.

Am I not correct in that in 1760 George 111, surrended the Crown estates to Parliament, the revenue of which was given to  Parliament in return for a civil list ?  According to what I can see on the 'net' the profits from the Crown Estates, run by the Crown Estates Commision, has realised  211 million Pounds Stirling for 2010.  So what is that the taxpayers are actually paying out to keep that wonderful woman on the throne ?  Oh! That all of of us had given so much to our Country over the last 60 years !!!.   Surely the taxpayers should be saying thanks  to Her Majesty, for the surplus the treasury is retaining.  And the value of the Crown Estates now being in the Billions.

Indeed, that is just about right. The Treasury actually makes a profit from the Crown Estates, as such the cost of the Monarchy is actually none existent.
