So they took the kids skiing, and still went to visit him.  Sounds like they're doing everything they can to keep the family intact. :flower:

Queen Beatrix has her priorities straight. I sincerely hope that her Son recovers with no long lasting effects.  :flower:

Snokitty,
I agree, the Queen does have her priorities straight.  I also hope that Friso makes a full recovery! I am hoping for some good news soon.

There was a press conference today and they said he had severe brain damage and the chance of him coming back to conscience was very small .

INNSBRUCK - Dutch Prince Johan Friso, the second son of Queen Beatrix, might never regain consciousness following a serious avalanche accident in Austria, his doctors announced Friday.

"It can't be said with certainty at this point whether Prince Friso will ever regain consciousness again," Wolfgang Koller, head of the trauma unit at Innsbruck University Hospital, told a press conference.

"In any case, a neurological rehabilitation will be required that will take months, if not years."

That is so sad. My thoughts are with his Family at this horrible time. As a Mother myself I grieve for the torment that his Mother must be feeling.  :(

So it's the very worst case scenario!
I'm sorry to hear it, that (massive brain damage) is really a much worse fate than death would have been.  I think that's the worst thing that could happen to a person.

Dutch prince Johan Friso in coma after avalanche

Quote
Dutch Prince Johan Friso, injured in an avalanche last week, is in a coma and may never regain consciousness, doctors treating him in Austria say.

Prince Friso, who had been on a skiing holiday in the Austrian resort of Lech, lay buried under snow for about 15 minutes before being rescued.

He was taken to hospital in Innsbruck after the accident, in which nobody else was hurt.

The prince, 43, is the second son of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.

So true!
In the blink of an eye it can change.

How on earth will they manage if he never wakes up?
Will they ever be able to adamently say he will or he won't?
Or is it just a waiting game?

A 50 minute cardiac event, even if the person is hypothermic, is not good.  The brain damage is usually catastrophic and irreversable.  And as horrible as it is to consider, this is the time to discuss organ transplant donation.

My heart goes out to the family.

Just looking at the pictures of the Queen and Princess Mabel says it all. You can see the pain and uncertainty in their faces as well as Friso's two brothers. I pray that some small miracle will happen but I wonder if he improves more will they bring him home to the Netherlands for long term care or return him to his home and a facility where he and Mabel make their home?. Such a sad time for the family.
