Yes Cindy I know some people are but there are people that follow every fad that comes along. Personally I think Kate hasn't made good choices in her clothes but I think she has a stylist now so that should get better.  :)

But that's how it works.  Designers design the dresses, famous people wear them, they get seen, and people who like the designs buy them.  Those who don't like them, don't buy them.  Nothing is liked universally by everyone.  It's been thus for decades ... for centuries.  Women began wearing the French Hood when Anne Boleyn became known as Henry VIII's intended.  They began wearing the long bell sleeves because she favored them.

Yes Cindy I understand how it works. A lot of people live their lives like that. There have always been people who want to be like someone else. I am just one of those people who doesn't want to be like anyone but myself. We are called Individualists, we think for ourselves, dress for ourselves and surround ourselves with other individualists. There is nothing wrong with following the crowd if one feels more comfortable with that. Isn't the best part of life the fact that we are all different in our own ways? If she can help some Designers further their careers I see nothing wrong with that but I am most certainly not going to go out and buy anything because I saw someone wearing it.  :flower:

Yes that is how it works and the style houses make their designs in accordance because they must meet the demand for the public wants to wear. All the department stores would go out of business if  they sold unpopular apparel. There have been arbiters of style far as long as people were on earth as you pointed out, Cindy.  No designs or choices are ever unique, only a play on what has been in existence since time began which is why the same clothing goes in and out of fashion. Someone brings back lace overlays, another brings back fur trims and the  comebacks never end. You can design your own clothes but they will have elements of previous designs. It's unavoidable. Woman and girls want to dress like Kate because she has a fresh approach to the old favourites and her picks are often figure enhancing on all shapes. But it won't stop there because so many in the female population want to identify with Kate as a powerful young woman who makes a difference in the world of the homeless and addicted and who has a clean slate free from substance abuse. A woman who completed her formal education, helped build her family's company and whose hand in marriage was sought by a leader and a royal family member. So it isn't just the style, it's the life style as well.  :flower:

Well speaking for myself - if I owned something that Kate decided to wear - I would not wear it any longer.  However I can understand that some like to look like her.

^^ Even if you'd bought it before Kate did, which would mean that at one time you must have liked it?

UK fashion industry boosted by 'Kate effect' - video 2mins 30 secs

According to the BBC commentary soon after Kate is seen wearing an outfit, internet surges and sales spike as much as 500%.  Just goes to show that Phillip Grayson may find Kate bland, but clearly others do not.

If people are buying clothing because of her, then good for them.  It certainly helps out the economy more when people make shallow and superficial purchases than when they only pay off bills and debts.  I say if you have the money to spend, do so.

Kate Middleton Factor Pushes NPG Figures Over Two Million

The National Portrait Gallery breaks historical record of over 2 million

Quote
The kate Middleton factor is proving its weight in gold for raising the profile of the already successful National Portrait Gallery who welcomed its unprecedented two millionth visitor today. This is a milestone which sets up the highest annual figures in the Gallery’s history, which are officially published at the end of the month.

I love the NPG and can't think of a more deserving artisitic organization.  The new portrait of Kate commissioned by her father in law will no doubt soon be a part of the collection.

Increased spending helps the economy as long as its citizens don't acquire too much personal debt, due to the trickle down effect.  If there is a Kate Duchess effect than good, the economies of the world need a jump start in my opinion.

The trickle down effect only works for certain things. Art is something that is not mass produced so it helps a gallery and one artist at a time. Not really much else. In my opinion while being good for this gallery there are a lot of other ways she could use that Kate effect to help out.

^^ Purchasing art helps the economy in many ways.  The artist buys art supplies ... canvas, oils, chalk, and whatever else he needs to create his project.  He also pays rent, buys groceries, maybe purchases a new television, new car, clothes, food for his dog/cat/horse, maybe buys flowers, jewelry.  And of course, as the article points out, visitors to the art gallery buy not only paintings, but pay for admission, buy guide books, spend money in the gallery restaurant, purchase membership, etc.

Oh, sophiechloe, be careful what you say!  :hehe:   She might just come out wearing one of your favorites! (Just joking, here)

I was wearing nude pumps long before Kate started wearing them, and I don't intend to give that up.  :happy15:

The media has lost its collective minds I think. Some more than others apparently.   :loco:

^^ agreed. I think the daily mail enjoy employing deluded women aka Mrs Samantha Brick  :hehe:

I can understand how it can be called the 'Kate effect' when she wears certain pieces and then after the clothes sell out but what about the other things? Like her old car which didn't sell at auction? The media pick and choose the facts for positive PR. I would like them to represent a more balanced perspective on royals in general (like not give the York sisters and Harry such negative publicity) but I don't think its going to happen any time soon.

The differences in buying a dress and buying a car couldn't be more diverse.  Price is only one consideration, and the car was highly overpriced on eBay.  That's not taking into account the fact that it was on it's second owner after Kate owned it.  Comparison is apples to oranges.
