 :thanks: Orchid!

Oh wait, I better chat about William & Kate to stay on-topic.

ummm....I was thinking about the Queen's Christmas Day speech the other day (no, I don't have a clue why either ) and I was hoping that when she reflects upon 2011, she gives the same weight and mention to Zara's wedding as she does to William's wedding.  Just as a parent shouldn't favor one child over another, a grandparent shouldn't favor one grandchild over the other.

This blog here: http://hrhduchesskate.blogspot.com/  mentions that the couple's next known scheduled engagement is for the Tusk Trust on December 5.

Clarence House doesn't mention this engagement (at the time I post this) but a check of the Tusk Trust http://www.tusk.org/tusk-modern.asp shows a reception and auction for Modern Art for Life on Monday December 5th at BAFTA in London.

As a grandparent she shouldn't favor one grandchild over the other, but she will not be adressing her family only.
As a monarch, having in mind the succesion line, and adressing her loyal subjects, I think it's ok if she only mentions Will's marriage

There is much tweeting in the last little - apparently on December 6th at Royal Albert Hall - William and Catherine will be at a Gary Barlow benefit concert along with Prince Charles and Camilla.

^^^ Perhaps the QEII has high hopes on both William and Catherine, hence a tad preference with Prince William and his spouse.

I recall and it prompted to look back at the Privy Council marriage consent, see the difference in treatment:

"My Most Dearly Beloved Granddaughter Zara Anne Elizabeth Phillips, and Michael James Tindall"

"My Most Dearly Beloved Son Charles Philip Arthur George, Prince of Wales, and Camilla Rosemary Parker Bowles"

"Our Most Dearly Beloved Grandson Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales, K.G. and Our Trusty and Well-beloved Catherine Elizabeth Middleton".

She see's William as 'the saviour' in my view.  Note the K.G. (Knight Garter) after his name in the Privy Council marriage declaration, it has various legendary meanings; generally the garter (cloth) would be tied to the man's leg, it was part of the armour during the 12th century, whichever of the Knight Garter legends one wants to believe, King George 'saved' the day so to speak.  :king:   The POW is also a KG, but it wasn't added in his marriage consent.

Plus the added wording to Catherine, but not to the other betrothed.

to me that sound like favoritism, she should have the same high hope for all her grandkids without letting the title get in the way which is unfair and wrong.  what make Kate so special than the rest yes she is the mother of the heirs  but the blood line does not end up in her stream it flow through the other too, all i have to add is we better be getting the same loving and rule to harry future bride, who ever he married she better be given the same freedom and work less load.

She's the Queen.  She's also the matriarch of the family.  If she approves more of one spouse, that's her prerogative.  And to be fair, Kate does show more promise than Mike Tindal, and she doesn't have a past history like Camilla.  So obviously, she'll feel closer to Kate, or at least more loving and kindly.  The Queen is not the only one who feels that the future of the monarchy rests heavily on William and Kate.  There are many in the general public who feel the same way.

Just to add ... this is not the first time that the Queen has shown her feelings in an approval for a marriage by leaving out certain words and accolades.

^^ Good point.

When these differences first came to light, I did try to find out if the word 'trusty' had an archaic meaning, but was unable to.  Perhaps someone else will be more successful.  :)

As I mentioned before,I'm neither British nor a royalist so I have two (silly) questions:

When did the Queen say that?

:thanks: Orchid!

2)The Queen will give a speech publicly or to her family only?

When did the Queen say that?

It's the wording on the formal consent given by the Queen.

2)The Queen will give a speech publicly or to her family only?

The Queen traditionally tapes a Christmas message for the nation.  Here is her message from last year:

One of my favorite Christmas Day messages is the 1984 one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSA-iuHXrps&feature=related

At approximately 4:45 minutes into the video - and for several minutes afterwards, we see the christening of Harry.

Later we see Diana calling Zara and Peter over to see Baby Harry - who at one point spits up on the christening gown - :teehee: and Wills and Zara doing laps around an older couple.

If you're not familiar with the Queen's Christmas Day messages, she apparently writes them herself and pre-records them.  Often she shows clips of her family interspersed with a message she considers topical.

William will probably become a better public speaker by the time he is king right? Then again he might just do the "uh" and tripping over words when he doesn't have a script.

 No one knows.  The Queen decides what goes in her message.
Here's a good a description as any: (Full link here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Christmas_Message )
Quote
The message typically combines a chronicle of that year's major events, with specific focus on the British Empire originally and later the Commonwealth of Nations, with the sovereign's own personal milestones and feelings on Christmas. It is one of the few instances when the sovereign speaks publicly without advice from any ministers of the Crown in any of the monarch's realms. Planning for each year's address begins months earlier, when the monarch establishes a theme and appropriate archival footage is collected and assembled; the actual speech is recorded a few days prior to Christmas.

It's only speculation at this point, but I think if she includes something this year on William's wedding, it will be because it is a significant event (more so than an engagement).  However, she tends to be even-handed where family is concerned, so if she does focus on the wedding for a bit, I do think she will also focus (at least momentarily with a picture or two) on her other grandchildren and their milestones in 2011 (Zara's wedding, Peter with wife and daughter, Beatrice's graduation...)

^ On November 22, there were pictures of Catherine grocery shopping - a day or two before, she (tried to quietly) visit at a school; on November 26, there was a story about William being part of a team that rescued Russians from the frigid waters off of Wales; and I've just now read tweets from @RegalEyes (Mark Stewart) and @SkyNewsRoyal (Paul Harrison) of being at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Reception.  Charles and Camilla were present, as well as William and Kate.  There may be other places/events that they've been to in the last week that we haven't heard about.

None of these (in the above paragraph) were 'public' (no official photographs) outings/engagements, etc.   However, in my opinion, it does show that William and Catherine are doing what they said they would be doing.

Thanks!  I was just going to look for some.

ETA: Did I mention there was mention of a 'tweet suite' at this affair - @SkyNewsRoyal (Paul Harrrison) even tweeted a picture of it - the media are in a hallway(?) tweeting from their phones - but definitely away from the reception.  Makes me wonder if the press were asked to refrain from tweeting, maybe even taking pictures during the actual reception.

You're welcome. :flower:  I noticed "the tweet suite" was mentioned by Richard Palmer in one of his tweets.  I think he mentioned that they were asked not to tweet ... I definitely remember that they were asked not to reveal what they talked about to any of the Royals.  If I remember after dinner, I'll check.
