I don't think it was about the name of the dog as much as it was the complaint about the pictures being published. Will and Kate cried harrassment over pictures taken with a wide-range lens on a public beach.

So the Cambridges decided to reveal the name to kids rather than the press. I can see how the next big announcement (bun in the oven news) will be made.
