Rules & Registration Agreement

Forum Rules

Rules updated: December 2, 2012

The Royal Insight Forum reserves the right to change or alter these rules at any time.

General Forum Rules

Please read these carefully and if you have any questions please feel free to contact a member of the Moderating Team.  Do note that The Royal Insight Forum is an English Language site, and any non-English text will be removed.

Royal Insight is a large community. The size and diversity of backgrounds requires a rather detailed set of guidelines. We are often asked why we have so many rules. After years of practice, we have determined that this is the best way to accommodate such a diverse community in a respectful and harmonious setting.

Royal Insight’s message boards are moderated using both automated content scanners and a team of moderators. In addition, members may report any post that they feel violates this list of rules using the “report to moderator” link that is present on all posts.  Moderators are members of the forum and may post, discuss, and debate in the threads as any regular member would. Their role is to uphold the site's community vision, enforce rules and policies and in general protect the site and community interests.

Rule Number 1: General membership behavior
All forum members are expected to be civil, considerate, and respectful to each other, and to the Royal Insight staff. What you would not shout in a public place should generally not be posted on the forum.  Any posts that do not comply with this rule will be removed, and the member will face disciplinary action.

Please note that Private Messages (PMs) are not monitored by the Royal Insight staff, however if a member chooses to share the contents of a PM with an Administrator (via the Report to Admin button), and that PM is found to violate rule #1, the offending member may face disciplinary action.

Rule Number 2: Legal issues
Posts or content that could result in the Forum, its members, or its staff facing legal repercussions are not permitted. The forum’s decision on all content and material is final and is not subject to negotiation

As a general rule, the following will not be permitted:
•   Copyrighted material (such as articles or images posted directly to the forum – please use links)
•   Defamatory comments, images, or videos
•   Screenshots of password protected websites (such as Facebook)
•   Discussion of, or links to private Facebook accounts (unless it is your own personal account)
•   Private photos (eg not available in newspaper, magazine, or TV sites)
•   Photos with pictures of babies or children who appear to be pre-teenage and could be identified
•   Photos which show anyone in such a way they could be embarrassed or ashamed

Rule Number 3: Disputes
All moderation disputes and grievances should be taken up with the Administrators privately, rather than aired on the public boards.  Any posts which attempt to discuss such matters publicly will be viewed as a deliberate attempt to cause disruption and disharmony and will thus be removed.

Rule Number 4: Privacy
Copying private messages or communicating private details or conversations between members on the public boards without their express permission will result in an immediate suspension of a members account and potentially termination.

Rule Number 5: Forum Etiquette
Proper forum etiquette is requested to make the forum easy to read. In general:
•   Keep your posts relevant to the thread (“on topic”)
•   Do not cross-post. Most members of the forum read multiple boards, so there is no need to post the same content in multiple areas of the forum.
•   Be considerate of other forum members – do not post in threads that have been inactive for over a month unless there is something new to discuss, and do not “double post” (posting twice in a row in the same thread). Members have 15 minutes after a post is submitted to edit if needed.
•   Be considerate of internet speeds by limiting the size of your avatar and signature. You will be asked to reduce your signature if the forum staff deem it too large. Avatars and signatures may not be defamatory or violent.

Rule Number 6: Advertising
The forum does not permit any spamming, advertising or promotion of products or services unless previously discussed and approved by an Administrator.  This includes posting links or images on the public boards and adding links or images to user signatures and avatars. Spamming the forum in any of these areas may result in users being banned and accounts being deactivated.

The forum will host blog-based material if it is relevant to the topical theme of the forum and does not contravene our policy on appropriate content.  We reserve the right to deny links to blogs if we consider them to be in opposition to any clause within our policies.

The Royal Insight Forum is not responsible for the content of external sites linked to from the forum and the opinions expressed in this forum do not necessarily reflect the opinions of The Royal Insight's owner or its server.
