Norwegian King and Queen to visit United States

Flags of the Nordic CountriesKing Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway have confirmed that they are to pay an official visit to the United States in the autumn. The visit will last for 12 days and will feature visits to the American Midwest and New York City.

Their Majesties will travel on 11 October 2011 to Minnesota and Iowa. The full diary of engagements has not been fully finalized, but it is understood the King and Queen will meet with government and state officials across the whole visit.

World royalty supports Japan during aftermath of earthquake

The UK's Queen Elizabeth sent a message to Japan's Emperor Akihito saying: “Our prayers and thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by the dreadful disaster.”

King Harald and Queen Sonja presided over the ceremony with their family, Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit and their children. The royal family took in the ceremony with the president of the International Ski Federation Gianfranco Kasper, and the mayor of Oslo, Fabian Stang.
